Our visit: June 2018

Overall description: About an hour from Redding, California. Beautiful in the summer, sometimes cold in the spring and fall. Not too crowded or heavily trafficked. Mountains in the background, big trees, moist ground around lake, varied undergrowth. Rocky outcroppings. Occasional thunderstorms, even in June.

Accommodations: We recommend staying in Redding, CA, where there are lots of hotel and restaurant options. This also offers the freedom to venture out in several directions to other scenic attractions in the greater area.
